Before configuring a TCP/IP channel, you must select a domain name
(e.g., "naples.example.com") for each of the
machines which will run PMDF. Associated with each domain name is an IP
address (e.g., 192.168.1.1
). If the
implementation of TCP/IP which you use supports domain literals and you
want to configure PMDF to use domain literal addressing (e.g.,
bob@[192.168.1.1]
), then you will also want to have at
hand the IP addresses for each of the machines for which PMDF will be
configured.
The pmdf configuration utility will create TCP/IP channels
for you. If you use this utility to configure TCP/IP channels, then
many configuration steps will have been performed for you. On OpenVMS
you must still be sure to disable the native SMTP server, as described
in Section 23.1.3. On all platforms, be sure to complete all the
configuration utility checklist steps, including configuring the PMDF
Service Dispatcher. Process Software strongly recommends that the
configuration utility be used to configure TCP/IP channels.
Documentation on the configuration utility can be found in the
appropriate edition of the PMDF Installation Guide.
