To start PINE, use the PMDF PINE command:

$ PMDF PINE

Command line qualifiers for pine are not supported. Pine is exited using the Quit command, Q.

Pine uses the OpenVMS SMG$ run-time library to implement terminal I/O. Pine will be unable to start if the terminal type is unknown to SMG$. If pine dies unexpectedly, it is possible that the terminal characteristics might need to be reset. Specifically you might need to issue the command:

$ SET TERMINAL/NOPASTHRU/LINE_EDIT

so as to restore your terminal characteristics.
